It’s hard to escape the news that the world of international shipping is beset with problems stemming from the COVID pandemic.
A recent document produced by the BAR, the UK’s trade body for moving companies, detailed some of the reasons behind this and attempted to lay out the implications for its members and their clients in 2022.
The causes of the supply chain crisis are complex: surging demand, trade and container imbalances, port congestion and haulage driver shortages amongst others have all combined to adversely impact the freight supply chain which transports most of the world’s goods and of course our clients’ possessions when moving globally. Unfortunately the outlook is not encouraging with the prospect of significant increases in freight rates and declining service levels from shipping lines endemic well into 2022.
There is a wealth of information available online with IAM (international Association of Movers) publishing a number of insightful articles. If you’d like a copy of the BAR’s briefing or have any questions related to shipping your personal effects overeseas then please get in touch.
